Jewelry can tie together an outfit, but it can be difficult to figure out how to style it. Together we will figure out what types of jewelry look best with certain articles of clothing and where you can get some new pieces.

Just like every other fashion and beauty trend there are also many jewelry trends. There are numerous different types of styles, designs and metals that are seen throughout jewelry.  But how do we style these types of jewelry and make it look good with the rest of the outfit? How do you tell if you have too much or not enough? Essentially what it comes down to is whether you like the way it looks or not.

The first step would be to find a style that you like, and that fits your aesthetic. Some of the more popular trends we have seen throughout this year are personalized pieces, layered/stacking looks, classic pieces, and lots of gemstones.

To further explain, personalized jewelry would include anything that has your name, initials, zodiac sign, birth year, and so on. Layering and stacking includes wearing numerous pieces of one piece, such as rings, necklaces or bracelets.

Classic jewelry can either be a minimalistic look, such as a singular dainty necklace, or a bigger statement piece. Anything that has a birthstone, crystal or a looking rock would fall under the gemstone category.

Besides the ones that were previously listed there are still countless types of styles and jewelry trends that can resonate more with you. Since we now know of the options we have when finding a look you like, knowing how to properly apply it is the second step. One thing to keep in mind is what you are wearing. Typically, if you are wearing something low cut or strapless, longer earrings, and a standard or matinee length necklace. This can draw someone’s eyes more towards your collarbones and neck, which you might be showing off in a low-cut top.

On the topic of earrings, the way your hair is styled can impact what kind of earrings you might want to wear. If you have your hair up, or shorter hair, a hoop or a dangly earring may look better, but a bigger statement stud can also look pleasing. Hair color is also something you should take into consideration.

You should pick a color/metal that will stand out. With rings and bracelets, it depends on what kind of outfit you are wearing. If you are more dressed up, simple, dainty pieces can tie the look together, as well as minimal chunky pieces. If you are wearing a more casual outfit, chunkier stacked rings, beaded and thread bracelets can be a fun way to add color and personality.

The final step would be to start investing and purchasing pieces you can see yourself wearing for a long time. Spending money on higher quality pieces with fashion and beauty related items can help you save money, and if you really do want that item or not.

Personally, some of my favorite places to get jewelry are Bellissima Boutique, and Swarovski for classier and simple pieces. As for more personalized, fun and colorful jewelry, check out Made by Merkk.

There are a lot of different ways you can go about using jewelry to enhance an outfit. Although social media creates a strict idea of what to do and what not to do, sometimes you should go against what the standards are. Do what interests you, experiment with stuff and have fun!
