Attending a city school is a decision that can change your college experience. Just the overall structure of a city school compared to those located outside city schools can visually impact a college experience. Attending Temple, which is not only a city school, but is in an area that many city schools would not find themselves in and has a specific type of personality to it.

Something my friends and I talk about all the time is how we think one must be a specific type of person to attend Temple. The personality of the people who go here truly makes the difference between Temple and other schools. The bright and spunky attitude of the students creates an exciting and energetic school environment. Life at Temple is full of constant changes and new challenges that make every day an adventure.

Being in a city such as Philadelphia is truly a gift, especially as a college student learning to live by themselves. The city has many opportunities to try new things out, explore, and make new friends. Temple is located right next to a subway station, making all of Philadelphia accessible, and the students take advantage of that.

On weekdays or weekends, you can find Temple students taking advantage of their city environment. Many spend time attending games, going shopping, trying a new place for dinner with friends, going to a museum, or wandering around to find hidden gems in the city. I believe we are lucky in the way that Temple has countless events out in the city to encourage students to enjoy the city that we live in.

If you are more of a homebody no need to worry, there is plenty to do on campus as well. Every start of the new year there is a fun event where special food trucks, games, a DJ, and oftentimes a bouncy house can be found on campus for everyone to have fun with their friends. Usually, within that same weekend, there is an outdoor movie night, which is the perfect opportunity to grab a blanket with friends and do something new outside before the weather gets cold.

For music lovers, there is an event called Owlchella where several artists are invited to come and perform at our very own Liacouras Center. This is an event that happens every year and has the hard work of many poured into it, making it both anticipated and loved by the students. With that, there are many more performances and games held at the Liacouras Center for everyone in the community.

Once the weather begins to warm up, towards the end of the Spring Semester, Beury Beach becomes the busiest place on campus with countless students coming out to enjoy the weather. You can find people working on assignments, playing games, taking naps, listening to music, hosting events such as thrifts, and overall enjoying the day.

Every year there is something new to do along with the traditions that Temple has made over the years. As I experience everything for the last time as a soon-to-graduate senior, I reminisce on my time here at Temple and the special memories I have made with my wonderful friends, dedicated professors, and fun classmates. Temple is special in the way that it is a city school with a beautiful and big campus full of opportunities to get involved and meet new people both within and outside of it.

There are hundreds of more events and opportunities that I have done to explore in my time here, but new and current students have the chance to delve into them, and it is recommended that they do. Life at Temple is vast and exciting, and everyone gets to experience the joy I had living at Temple!
