Introducing Google Plus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

With several big-name social media platforms floating around the internet it can be hard to choose which ones to dedicate your loyalty. The newest rendition on the social network craze is Google+. The Google innovation is marketed to create a more intimate viral social experience. Google+ joins the likes of Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr, promising a revolutionary spin on internet communication.

The Google+ equivalent to T-watching and Facebook stalking is its “follow” feature. Interested in a group conversation? Create a “circle”. If you’re looking for a “like” component similar to Facebook’s, Google+ offers a “+1” clickable link. Are you getting the idea? Google+ seeks to make your internet socializing a more precise, direct way of keeping in touch by creating a forum with distinct subcategories.

In her review for TheRoot.com, writer Jenée Desmond-Harris urges young people to jump on the bandwagon sooner than later.

“…If it does take off, at least I’ll be able to say I was there. I wasn’t left out. Isn’t that what this is all about?” she writes.

If you’re a hipster you’ll love the idea that Google+ is so new that it’s currently in a limited Field Trial. This means that there are a select number of user slots. At the moment the site has a disclaimer reading “We’ve temporarily exceeded our capacity.” Don’t be the last to know about this new internet wave. Add your email address to the invite list now at plus.google.com!
