Here’s Why Cheesesteaks Are Amazing (If You Needed More Reasons)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

Philadelphia, The City of Brotherly Love, is known for its history in the creation of the United States, and, of course, cheesesteaks!

Whether people like to admit it or not, cheesesteaks are a part of what makes the city of Philadelphia so great.

If you go to any concert, the artist will most likely mention cheesesteaks. They’ll tell the crowd that they went to either Pat’s or Geno’s, while everyone at the concert yells their own favorite cheesesteak spot.

People travel from all over to find the perfect Philadelphia cheesesteak and I personally think that is amazing. Other states and even countries try to recreate the masterpiece that is a cheesesteak, but none even compare to what we have here in Philly. It is one of our biggest tourist attractions and it’s literally food. If that doesn’t describe Philadelphia then what does?

Have you ever wondered what makes the Philadelphia cheesesteak so appealing? According to the Philadelphia Business Journal researcher’s poll, it’s not about what goes in the cheesesteak, but more about if the roll is perfectly toasted.

For me personally, I think a perfect cheesesteak depends on the meat. I like my meat diced smaller, which explains why I think Dalessandro’s has the best cheesesteaks (Jimmy Fallon thinks so too). Other people think a perfect cheesesteak is based upon the cheese. My heart will always be with Whiz (I don’t care how gross some people think it is) but many people switch it up and go for American or Provolone.

Another classic cheesesteak topping is fried onions. I personally don’t like fried onions in general let alone on my cheesesteak, but if that sounds good to you, throw some on there. Other than fried onions and cheese, I think overloading on toppings takes away from the beauty that is the cheesesteak.

There is truly nothing like a Philly cheesesteak. Philadelphia will always be known for cheesesteaks because it’s in our blood. Now, if you read this and are hungry, go get yourself a Philly cheesesteak. Maybe I’ll see you at Dalessandro’s, Pat’s, Geno’s, or Jim’s!
