Harry Styles Takes Over Philadelphia With His 2017 Tour

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

If anyone knows me, they know I’m obsessed with Harry Styles.

I constantly talk about him 24/7. I was lucky enough to be able to snatch a ticket for his show in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania on Thursday, October 5th, at the Tower Theatre. Dedicated fans camped out for a certain spot right in front of the stage. Luckily for me, I had a seat up in the loge area so I didn’t have to worry about getting a good spot down on the floor. Arriving at the Tower, there were 2 separate lines. The first was for general admission, which was the on the floor and first come, first serve. Then there was my line, the loge and balcony area. That line was much longer than the other. I found my way down the block and around the corner to the end of the line where I waited to get in.

Before I knew it, I had my tour T-shirt, sweatshirt, and my ticket in my hand and sitting in my seat waiting patiently for the show to start.

The opening band goes by the name “MUNA.” I had never heard of them until tonight but the girls were definitely the right choice for Harry’s opening act. They got the crowd amped up and they seemed so happy to be on stage. Plus, their music was catchy and got the crowd dancing. Katie, Josette, and Naomi are very talented.

That half hour of waiting impatiently to see the man that everyone came to see felt like forever.

I tapped my foot on the ground with my phone in my hand ready to take pictures. Around 9:00, the lights dimmed and the crowd went wild. Harry’s band started to sing the lyrics “Oh, tell me something I don’t already know,” from his song “Ever Since New York,” behind the pink curtain that was covering the stage. Moments later, Harry’s silhouette was shown and a roar of screams were echoed through the theater. The curtain was drawn and he was seen wearing a black suit with dragons on his pants.

For the first few songs, Harry played guitar, but when he performed “Only Angel,” he started to walk around the stage.

During the rest of the concert, Harry danced around on stage like there was no tomorrow. He ran around waving the LGBT and trans pride flags, sang one of his songs twice, and even performed 2 One Direction songs. He also interacted with the crowd a lot. During an intermission, Harry told everyone to embrace a stranger by giving them a hug. I also really liked how one of the T-shirts sold at the concert read, “Treat People with Kindness.”

Overall, Harry was born to perform on the stage. He’s simply a rock star. I had such an amazing time and I can’t wait to see him again next year.
