Alexander Wang Reveals Athletic Collection For H&M

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

Popstar and fashion trendsetter Rihanna recently gave fashion enthusiasts a preview of Alexander Wang’s fall collection with H&M. Back in April the diva strutted the pavement of New York City wearing a gray and black crop top and leggings with Alexander Wang’s logo printed in monochrome letters throughout the two piece set.

Wang expressed his overwhelming excitement for the collection by instagramming a photo of Rihanna with the caption: “#Rihanna debuts a crop top &leggings from the #AlexanderWangXHM collaboration.” He continued this trend by posting Instagram pictures of the high fashion and athletic models featured in the H&M ad campaign with the caption “#AlexanderWangXHM.”

Wang captures the true essence of a trendsetter because he creates fashion-forward designs and he set a new record as the first American designer to collaborate with H&M. Wang’s evolving and innovate creativity is a present theme in his fall collection for both men and women. Style Magazine speaks to Wang and describes the motivation behind the collection, “I wanted to create a collection where most of the pieces have been designed from scratch…rather than creating affordable versions of expensive items, I wanted to design true performance pieces that are within the natural price points of sportswear of H&M.”

On Sept. 25 H&M unveiled the Alexander Wang X H&M print ad campaign featuring high fashion models Joan Smalls, Raqual Zimmermann, Isabeli Fontana and Natasha Poly as well as UK Soccer player Andy Carroll and kickboxer Rivaldino dos Santos. These dynamic models display Wang’s cutting edge athletic collection ranging from sporty leggings, puffer jackets and snakeskin printed sweaters and shorts. The monotone color palette of gray and black is a dominating theme throughout the collection. Wang’s use of textiles, monochrome printed logos and Neoprene apparel provides a refreshing and ingenious take on athletic wear. While the clothing line has a strong athletic theme it can easily be worn in a casual setting. The collection extends beyond sport attire and incorporates shoes, bags and even objects. Style Magazine quoted H&M’s Creative Advisor, Margareta van den Bosch, explaining how the collection is a direct inspiration from, “Alexander Wang lifestyle, infused with a sense of humor and irony.”

There’s only a few more weeks before the highly anticipated collection will be in stores and online on Nov. 6.
