11 Shows to Binge-Watch on Netflix

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

1. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

If you live in Philadelphia, go to school in the area, or love the City of Brotherly Love, this show is a must-watch for you. The gang travels all around Philly during the show and the opening credits include some of Philly’s most popular attractions. The first episode even mentions Temple University and shows two of the main characters visiting the campus. If you are looking for a hilarious comedy to watch on Netflix, consider watching It’s Always Sunny.

2. Shameless

This show recently exploded on Netflix, and the eighth season is set to be released on Showtime soon. The family dynamics in the series and their struggles, triumphs, love, and loss truly make the show irresistible. You will quickly fall in love with the characters and before you know it, you will be anxiously awaiting season eight.

3. Black Mirror

Each episode of Black Mirror is different from the one before, but the stories are always quite creative and captivating. There are only a few episodes in each season which makes it an easy show to binge watch. If you want to watch something full of unique ideas and thrilling stories, this show could be perfect for you.

4. 13 Reasons Why

Everyone is talking about this show and the message behind it, which makes it perfect to binge-watch ASAP. It is important that this show has become such a phenomenon because it helps bring awareness not only to the topic of suicide, but also to how important each of our words and actions are.

5. How I Met Your Mother

If you love Friends then you will most likely love HIMYM. The characters on the show are funny and relatable which is one of the reasons why it was so successful when it aired. Each episode is full of laughs and the characters are always getting themselves in and out of sticky situations. If you have time and want some comic relief in your life, invest your time and effort into this show.

6. One Tree Hill

One Tree Hill regained its fame from when it originally aired thanks to Netflix and all those who decided to watch it. This show has been around for many years, and because it lasted for almost ten seasons, we the viewers get to see the characters grow from their high school to adult selves. We follow them through their best and worst times and see how they become the person they are now. Call me basic but this show and the messages hidden throughout the series make it a perfect show to binge-watch.

7. Prison Break

Every time I ask my friends and family what to watch on Netflix, they all say Prison Break. This show is a huge success and the first episode of the new fifth season just aired on FOX. This show is another action-packed drama with tons of twists and turns that make it so thrilling to watch. I have never heard anyone say they disliked this show and it could just be the perfect series to start binge-watching.

8. Gossip Girl

I do not think I will ever be over this show because I may or may not have finished all six seasons in exactly one month. Gossip Girl, similarly to One Tree Hill, became popular all over again when Netflix released it on their site. The drama of these high-class teenagers and the luxuriously-twisted lives they live grabs the attention of the audience and makes it an easy show to indulge your time into.

9. Criminal Minds

People assume that this is just a show about horrendous murders, crimes, and terrifying serial killers, but it is so much more than that. Criminal Minds goes beyond the crime scene and emphasizes the reasons people commit the crimes they do. We also get to see the personal lives of our favorite characters throughout the series. If you find murder interesting and like crime shows, I highly recommend Criminal Minds.

10. How to Get Away with Murder

Annalise Keating and her squad are some of the most badass characters on TV right now. This show is set to release its fourth season soon, and the first three seasons are all on Netflix. This show screams drama and has gotten crazy buzz since its original release. Viola Davis, who plays Annalise Keaton, is critically acclaimed for her major role in the show and I can not wait to see all the drama that comes with season four.

11. Skins

Forgetting about the U.S. version that MTV unsuccessfully aired a few years ago, Skins is a British television show about teens trying to find their way through life and dealing with problems such as substance abuse, relationships, depression, anxiety, family issues, and more. The series portrays real-life problems and relationships that teens have with one another and is a perfect show to binge-watch.
