Watching the news or reading headlines from around the world can feel quite stressful right now with all the negative and horrible things occurring globally. While these events are important and deserve to be reported on, this is not all that is happening in the world. In fact, there are a lot of positive things going on as well. Texas mother-daughter duo honored for successful non-profit

Starting off close at home, a mother-daughter duo from Texas was honored with the Points of Light Award for their work in helping children with pediatric pancreatitis. Together they raised over $3 million dollars to help families, whose children are diagnosed with pediatric pancreatitis, enable specialized training for doctors working in this field, and support medical research. Listening to your favorite music can reduce pain

If you need another reason to blast your favorite songs, here you have it! Canadian researchers found out that listening to your favorite music can actually help to reduce pain. Music classified as bittersweet or moving has been found to especially decrease pain. With the perfect fall weather coming up, there seems to be no better time than to listen to a bittersweet playlist while enjoying hot cocoa.

A coal mine in Norway given back to nature

In Svalbard, Norway a former coal mine is being returned to nature. It’s one of the biggest natural restoration projects the country has done so far. The coal mine was shut down in 2017 and since then nature has already started to reclaim the land. The government has implemented procedures to help this process by letting creeks run free and ensuring avalanches spread sediment.

Dog saves kitten by donating blood

In Nebraska, a 3-month-old kitten was in a medically critical condition and desperately needed a blood transfusion. At first, it seemed as if they wouldn’t find a suitable blood donation, but luckily the blood from a husky turned out to be a perfect match and with his donation, the dog saved the little kitten’s life.

Germany wins the European bread-baking championship

While this shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, Germany now also has the medal to prove it. During the European bread-baking championship, Alexander Weinhold beat his competitors from other European countries and won the gold medal for bread-baking. With over 3,000 different kinds of bread, Germany is now officially the best European country at making bread.
