Whether it’s your first time or your fourth, Austin City Limits is an unforgettable experience. Below are some of our go-to tips for surviving the weekend of a lifetime:

Go with a group: Not only is going with more people more fun, it helps reduce the price. Friends can chip in on gas, and the more people who split a hotel room, the cheaper it gets (just be sure to check with the hotel policy so some of your friends don’t end up homeless for the weekend).

Budget: In a city like Austin, it’s hard not to get carried away with all the amazing restaurants and bars (cough, cough, 6th Street anyone?), but as college students, you probably don’t have that much money to spare. Before you go, try to create a budget for yourself. How much are you willing to spend on food, drinks and transportation (Uber rates will be jacked up all weekend long!)?

Dress Functionally: Obviously, you want to have the perfect outfit for your ~super hipster~ Insta, but if we’re being real, music festivals are a LOT of walking. Also, as weather permits, it may be raining and this can cause mud (just Google “ACL mud 2012” and you will see.) Be sure to wear comfortable shoes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty.

Make a plan: ACL is filled with so many amazing artists and the ACL grounds are huge. Make a list on your phone of all the artists you really want to see, their show time and the stage they are performing on. This way when you get to the festival grounds you aren’t just wandering around trying to figure out where to go next and end up missing one of your favorite acts.

Be Safe: While ACL is a ton of fun, it is also a ton of people. Don’t be stupid; don’t wander around late at night. Before you leave for your weekend, make sure your phone is hooked up with “Find My iPhone” and consider downloading friend finder apps like “Companion” or “Find My Friends” in case you get separated.

Have FUN!: It’s a music festival, so have fun! Austin is known for their food and entertainment, so soak it in!
