Adidas Superstar: The Fashionista’s Sneaker

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCU chapter.

Adidas Superstars are almost as ubiquitous now as Instagram captions with the pretty brackets around them {seriously, what’s with those!?}. They’re everywhere. I remember when I got my pair last September, I felt so special because not many people at TCU were wearing them yet. But something happened over winter break. As soon as I got back on campus they were everywhere! I don’t know if it’s because people’s parents actually started paying attention to fashion trends over the holidays, or if Adidas finally restocked the shoes that have been sold out for months, or if maybe everyone saw me wearing them and thought, wow she seems so cool and beautiful and fun and amazing and friendly, and look at those shoes! I want a pair! I’m thinking it’s definitely the latter reason. Just kidding–the first week I got them, someone asked me why I was wearing white athletic shoes with dark jeans and that I looked like an elderly lady with them on. Thanks. No one ever tells Kylie Jenner she looks like she is 80 years old when she is wearing her Superstars. All the hip celebrities are Superstars advocates. People like G Eazy, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, and even Jay Z can be seen strolling in the classic Adidas. I’m thinking they’re the new white converse. You can pretty much wear Adidas Superstars with anything. They look good with dresses, sweats, jeans (at the risk of looking like an 80 year old—or maybe that’s just me), and even a formal dress if you’re sick of stepping on the sticky, gross dance floor with your bare feet after you’ve ditched the heels. Plus, while they are comfy vintage classics, they also appear somewhat sleek and modern which makes whatever outfit they’re paired with automatically more stylish and fashionable. If you haven’t already, go out and get a pair while the 90’s classics are still trending!
