Many of us fit into the typical stereotype of a “broke college kid.” Between food, gas, rent, and nights out—not to mention textbooks and tuition—it gets really expensive to be a student. With a rigorous schedule of classes and extracurricular activities, it can be hard to find a job that fits into your busy schedule without overwhelming all of your free time. Luckily, The College of New Jersey hires many students to work on campus throughout the school year. Here are some of the benefits of expanding your involvement and becoming a student employee:

  1. Campus jobs are easy to fit into your schedule.

Unlike other jobs, managers at the college understand the uneven schedules and responsibilities that college students have. When you work on campus, the employers completely accommodate your classes and extracurriculars to build your schedule around those hours. Another added bonus is that many of the work locations on campus are closed on weekends, which gives students even more freedom.

  1. You will meet new friends.

When you work on campus, your co-workers will be students in different grade levels and majors who you may have never met before. Working on campus can be a social experience in addition to a job—which can end up being fun!

  1. You will get to know the college’s staff.

Working at the college exposes students to many different staff members who they may have never met before. Making connections with staff members is a great way to learn more about the college, and can even inspire the direction of your career.

Having a job that is convenient to get to and works with your schedule is a great way to earn money as a student. You can work for up to 15 hours each week, which prevents students from experiencing burnout and leaves time for a great work-life-balance! To find jobs on campus, search “student employment” on tcnj.edu and sign in. Good luck!
