This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCNJ chapter.

“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless” – Mother Teresa

February 17 marks the National Random Acts of Kindness Day! This day is celebrated by individuals, organizations, and groups of people to encourage different acts of kindness.

It is important to speak to others with soft kind words and to always take into account their feelings before saying anything hurtful. Kindness is an act that can be shown through several different actions, so take time out of your day and do something that will make someone happy.

Here are 10 simple ways to show kindness:

1.     Open the door for someone

2.     Text a friend and ask how they’re doing

3.     Tell a family member you love them

4.     Help someone by holding their belongings

5.     Help a professor out in class

6.     Donate clothes or books to a local drive

7.     Compliment someone

8.     Smile at a stranger

9.     Leave your roommate a positive note

10.  Acknowledge a friend’s recent accomplishments
