March 6- National Frozen Food Day 2017

When we found out that there was a National Frozen Foods Day, we felt that as college students, it was our responsibility to share it with all of you.

If you’re a college student, odds are that frozen foods are a regular part of your diet. I don’t know about you, but I’m not ashamed of it (…okay maybe a little bit.)  Our parents and all other adults out there shake their heads and wonder how we can eat frozen foods, ramen noodles, and Kraft Mac N Cheese every day, but I feel the need to stick up for us all.

The truth is, most of us don’t have time to cook full-blown meals. Between work, night classes, homework, studying, clubs, and spending time with friends, our nights are all pretty booked up. Therefore, it only makes sense that when I weigh the options of having a microwavable dinner that takes two only two minutes to cook or a chicken dinner that will take about an hour when all is said and done, you can bet that I’m choosing the former.

Would I like to eat three well-balanced, nutritional meals every day? Yes. Why do you think college students love both fast food and home cooked meals so much? Short answer: we don’t have to make them PLUS they taste so much better than anything we could’ve made anyway.

In my opinion, this national day was instituted primarily because of college students (probably not, but a girl can dream.) What I’m getting at here is that while it’s nice to aim to have three healthy meals a day, it’s also okay to accept that that just might not be a reality for all college students.

In other words, thank you for this national holiday and for recognizing the importance of frozen foods. Authors tip- my favorite is Perdue Chicken Breasts. They’re already seasoned and everything, so that makes for an easy, tasty meal!

Once again, shout out to all frozen food lovers and eaters – we’re all in this together!Cover image: Pixabay.com
