Finding makeup when you’re a woman of color has always been one of the most difficult tasks ever — whether you’re just getting into makeup or you’re a pro like Youtuber, Jackie Aina. I’m here to make your life a little easier with six brands that have products that look good on every chocolate, caramel, and golden skin tone!

1. Juvia’s Place

Juvia’s Place is a cosmetics brand that features eyeshadow palettes, highlighters, blushes, and lip products with amazing pigmentation. Their collections range from bright greens and yellows to calm and neutral browns and deep purples and burgundies that are sure to make you look amazing while you’re at school, at work, or on vacation!

2. Beauty Bakerie

Although Beauty Bakerie has been around since 2011, the cosmetic brand recently gained media attention in 2017 and 2018 because of its breakthrough foundation formula. The brand prides itself on creating products that cater to all of the needs of their customers, including being able to get ready quickly in the morning! In fact, their famous Cake Mix Dem-Matte foundation is known for drying fast, staying put, and matching skin tones, especially for our dark-skinned sisters, to a T!

3. ColourPop Cosmetics

One of the biggest issues that have been recently brought to light since Rhianna introduced Fenty in 2017 (Thank you, QUEEN RIRI), is the absence of products that cater to women of color, especially darker skinned women, as well as the lack of product swatches on those medium to dark tones for make-up lovers to see. For ColourPop, they make shopping for WOC easier by featuring swatches of their lip and eyeshadow products on three different skin tones, ranging from light to medium to dark. Plus, their Liquid Lipsticks are to die for – talk about pigmentation and color that stays!

4. Maybelline

Maybelline is a drugstore favorite, and you should know why! Their Matte FitMe Foundation comes in a wide variety of shades that is fit for any melanin queen. Like ColourPop, the Maybelline Instagram and other social media features products worn by women of all colors, backgrounds, and styles to show how versatile not only their foundations are, but their other products are, too!

5. L.A. Girl Cosmetics

L.A. Girl is renowned not only for their amazing Pro concealers that wipe away dark circles and blemishes like magic, but also because those concealers come in 28 different shades to fit every woman and her needs! Not only that, the concealers are under $5. Look good on a budget, sis!

6. IMAN Cosmetics

IMAN Cosmetics was launched by the beauty icon Iman in 1994 with products made for women of color representing different races, cultures, and ethnicities. Shades, colors, and hues of all of their products are made to enhance the natural beauty of all the melanin queens out there! The appeal of this brand is that offers products specifically designed for multi-cultural women of different shades and can be found in your local Walgreens!
