Eating In: Best Places to Order Take-Out

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCNJ chapter.

We all have those days when we don’t want to get out of bed and make the trek over to Eickhoff. So the question then becomes, what are the best places to order food from? We all compile heaps of menus as they constantly get shoved under our doors, but which ones are actually worth our hard earned money and which ones are just desperate? Her Campus TCNJ has found a few places with the best tasting and cheapest food for your college budget.

Lovin’ Cookies:
The newest place around campus, Lovin’ Cookies is great if you are just looking for something to snack on. You can create your own cookies by first picking the type of dough and then choosing from a wide variety of chocolates and other various toppings. You can even order online instead of on the phone, which makes it easier to pick what you want because you can see all of the options that they have. The prices are affordable and vary depending on how many cookies you order. Its $3.50 for three cookies and $15.50 for 12, and the good news is there’s no extra cost to have them delivered to TCNJ! The cookies are scrumptious, especially when you add your favorite chocolates to them, but if you want a balanced meal you should probably look for something a little more filling.

FAT Shack: If you’re at a party with a case of the late night munchies, or drunchies (drunk munchies for our 21 year old collegiettes ONLY), the place to call FATShack. This spin-off of Rutgers’ grease trucks was created by TCNJ students who were looking to fill the void of late-night snacking here. If you like fast food, you will love the FATShack and it’s good for those late night meals. The cost for delivery is $1.50 and the cost of meals ranges between $2.50 and $24.00 but the average meal costs around $7.00 to $9.00. Even the college student on a budget can handle these prices, and the variety of subs and burgers are sure to satisfy an appetite.

No. 1 China:
It’s hard not to know about this Chinese restaurant, because it seems like they are always sliding their menus underneath the dorm room doors! Even though they are persistent, their food is excellent (their dumplings and soy sauce are my personal favorite!). On top of that, it isn’t expensive. Most regular meals cost around $4.00 and combination platters cost around $7.00,. To order delivery the order total has to reach at least $10.00, but there is no extra delivery cost. If you like Chinese food No. 1 China provides the best available for the price, and they deliver fast and right to the entrance of your building!

Polermo’s:
Some might not find this Italian restaurant’s pizza to be the greatest, but it’s still a step up from Eickhoff pizza. Instead, opt for a sub or pasta. They don’t just have Italian food, but buffalo wings, hoagies, steak sandwiches and burgers too. They will deliver around lunchtime during the week but not on weekends. They also have gluten- and wheat-free food items. Palermo’s has a minimum delivery total of $8.00 and a $1.00 delivery charge. Their food is the most expensive, especially if you get gourmet pizza, pasta, or Stromboli. A large regular pizza pie is $11.95 and sandwiches are $8.95.
