Don’t Be Afraid to embrace your imperfections.

It was in the middle of junior year of high school when I made the daring decision to cut off all my hair. I was walking the halls of the crowded hallway when I noticed every girl in school had long hair, each with various lengths. At this time, I had shoulder length hair. Before that, my hair was above my waist. In a span of a year, I went through so many haircuts, the newest one being shorter than the last, but I never had the guts to cut it all off. That day while studying each girl’s hair, I finally worked up the courage to just do it.

Cutting my hair made me feel empowered. It was a significant moment for myself when I realized that I am beautiful with or without acne. I received positive feedback from numerous people who liked the new pixie cut I’ve embraced. Before having short hair, I rarely saw women without long hair. I wanted to encourage others like myself who struggle with imperfection. To embody their beauty and share it with the world, no matter how they express it. For anyone who is insecure about themselves, just know you are not alone, and you are the only one who can make that difference in your life.

Let me first tell you that I’ve never felt more confident than when my hair was short. Back when I had long hair, I used it as a shield. In some odd way, it was like a protective cloak. Like most kids in high school, I had severe acne so I used my hair as a curtain to hide behind. For me, acne was something I didn’t want people to see. I struggled with it for most of my life, and even now. I was able to get treatment to clear it up, but I was still hesitant to show my face. Once I cut my hair, I realized that people didn’t care how I looked, it was just me who thought they did.
