How I Lower My Online Shopping Expenses

When online shopping for clothes, here are some tips and tricks I use to prevent overspending.  (This can also be used for other items).

Cut the Cart in Half

I like to add whatever I want to the cart.  If I think something is cute, even if I’m indecisive, I’ll just add it.  It’s easier to erase from the cart than it is to find it all over again.  But this can lead to far too many items in my cart.  So after I finish adding items to my cart, I will make sure to cut the cart in half.  If I have 20 items, down to 10 it goes.  This helps me weed out the pieces I ehh about and the pieces I love.  It also helps my bank account.

Look Back in Two Days

Before I check out, I make myself close my computer and step away.  I have to ruminate on my items before I purchase.  If I’m still thinking on it two days later, then I know that it’s an item I have to get.  If I’ve forgotten about it, well then thank goodness I put my computer away.

Return Pieces You Don’t Like

If it doesn’t fit, get rid of it.  And with girl math, you earn money when you make returns.  It’s the perfect incentive to not hold onto a piece that you don’t like.

Do I Really Need it?

I ask myself if I really need it.  Do I already have a similar piece?  Do I have anything that will match with it?  Is it worth the price?  These three questions really help me debate on whether the purchase is necessary.

Don’t Save Your Credit Card Information to Your Phone

It’s a task to get up and get my card out of my bag.  This extra step ensures that what I’m buying is what I really want.  If I don’t want to get up, then I don’t really want what I have in my cart.

Howdy! I’m Gabriela Gomez, an avid reader who is interested in all areas of publishing and writing. And reading of course! I’m the Editor-in-Chief; I currently oversee all the publishing of articles for the Her Campus at TAMU chapter. I am overjoyed to read all the members’ articles and make any corrections that will help to elevate the article. I have been with Her Campus at TAMU since my freshman year. The first year I was a general member on the Writing and Editing committee. During that first year, I wrote a total of 23 articles and was always finding new ways to help. For my second year, I worked as the Senior Editor, publishing more than 80 articles and writing 38 articles. Now in my second semester of junior year, I have implemented a new pitch process for better organization and cleanest, I have already published more than 170 articles, and I have written 16 articles and will continue writing more! Besides working as the Editor-in-Chief, I am a dedicated student at Texas A&M studying Biomedical Sciences. I am also obtaining a minor in both English and Spanish. While not studying diligently, I work in a research lab grinding away, trying to get my name on some research papers (fingers crossed). In my free time, I read, obviously. I am also on the hunt for the best latte to ever bless this earth and love a good game of chess!
