The 8 Stages of Syllabus Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TAMU chapter.

There is nothing quite like the beginning of a new school year at Texas A&M. With temperatures reaching as high as 92 degrees Fahrenheit with a “feels like” of about 100 F, arriving to class drenched in sweat is the social norm in Texas—no matter how utterly uncomfortable it can be. With the combination of extreme heat and the enormity of our campus, there’s no question that the sun is helping to drive the constant change of mood amongst the school’s students.

Here are the 8 Stages of [thank the heavens for] syllabus week:

1. Excitement

Because you and your friends are REUNITED, and it feels so good.

2. Anxiety

Because who said college was a good idea, anyways?!

3. Denial

Because you’re pretty sure the calendar still says it’s summer.

4. Anger

Because you start to think about how crazy traffic is going to be.

5. Bargaining

Because maybe staying home and “reading the textbook” is the better option, anyways. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

6. Binging

Because yes, staying home to read was a way better choice than going to class.

7. Depression

Because you probably should’ve been productive and actually gone to class. I mean, hey, it’s only syllabus week.

8. Acceptance

Because you finally realize that college isn’t that bad.
