This Sunday, February 12th, is Super Bowl Sunday.  The Kansas City Chiefs are set to play against the Philadelphia Eagles.  Rihanna is performing at the halftime show.  And the ads are going to be comedy gold.  So whether you’re hosting a watch party with friends, spending the time with family, or cozying up with someone special, food is a must.  So here are 10 dishes you can opt to make from scratch or pick up from the frozen food aisle at the grocery store.

  1. Pizza Bagels

I don’t recommend making pizza bagels from scratch.  Especially for Super Bowl Sunday.  So, buy the ones from the grocery store frozen aisle.  They’re great.  And they take ten minutes in the oven (don’t microwave, use the oven.  They turn out so much better in the oven).  Easy and Done.

Although if you are craving a long, drawn out process, check out Bon Appetit’s video:

  1. Mozzarella sticks

Mozzarella sticks are the best frozen food on the planet.  I always overcook my mozzarella sticks; they come out of the oven bursting, the bread coating breaking from the oozing cheese.  And don’t forget to serve with some warmed up marinara sauce.  Ugh, heaven.

And mozzarella sticks are a relatively easy snack to make.  Check out this youtube video for step by step directions:

  1. Chicken Nuggets or Hot Wings

Chicken wings are peak Super Bowl food.  And there are some decent frozen hot wings sold (some vegan ones too depending on your grocery store).  It’s not a Super Bowl meal if the wings aren’t present.

If you feel like making some, click the link for multiple different ways to make them:

  1. Mac n Cheese Balls

Oh my goodness, but Mac n Cheese Balls are phenomenal.  They are the moment.  Way back when, when Trader Joe’s first started selling Mac n Cheese Balls, they were heaven.  But then Trader Joe’s pulled them from the shelves and started selling a different version (the original will always be better).

Anyways, get some frozen Mac n Cheese Balls if you can find them.  I promise you, they are amazing and you will not regret your purchase.  Also, next time you’re at Pluckers, order some Holy Macaroni.

And Mac n Cheese Balls can be made at home:

  1. Taquitos

Taquitos are fried tortillas stuffed with meat or cheese and beans.  So they are vegetarian friendly.  And they are often solid at grocery stores in Texas (check the frozen snack aisle).  You can elevate the taquitos with fresh guacamole or some habanero hot sauce.

  1. Caesar Salad

This can be bought at the store, or you can throw it together in a couple minutes for a cheaper option.  It’s all up to you.  But I do recommend a salad because the frozen meals from above are heavy and fatty.  A nice, bright salad is the perfect way to balance the other dishes.

  1. Fruit Salad

Nothing is better than fresh fruit.  A fruit salad is a great way to use up the extra fruit you have in the fridge, just make sure to sprinkle it with lemon or lime juice to keep it fresh.  Any fruits will do, just keep in mind what pairs well together.

  1. Guacamole (Serve with a Side of Tortilla Chips)

Don’t buy grocery store guac, don’t do it.  It tastes like chemicals.  Fresh guac is super easy to make.  All you need is avocado, lemon/lime juice, tomatoes, cilantro, onion, salt, and jalapenos/serranos.

  1. Queso (Serve with a Side of Tortilla Chips)

With queso, there are two different routes you can take: concession stand cheese dip or real queso.

For the queso:

  1. Pigs in a Blanket

You might be able to find these in the store, already assembled, but I highly advise against buying those.  Instead, buy some croissant dough and some mini hot dogs or sausages – you can make this meal vegetarian if you buy fake sausage.  Then, simply roll up the mini hot dogs in the dough and pop in the oven until cooked.  This literally takes less than 2 minutes to assemble and everyone adores the snack.

Or, you can go the extra mile and make fancy pigs in a blanket.  Claire Saffitz, who I am obsessed with right now so it’s only right I share a recipe of hers, has a step by step video that explains the process:

Howdy! I’m Gabriela Gomez, an avid reader who is interested in all areas of publishing and writing. And reading of course! I’m the Editor-in-Chief; I currently oversee all the publishing of articles for the Her Campus at TAMU chapter. I am overjoyed to read all the members’ articles and make any corrections that will help to elevate the article. I have been with Her Campus at TAMU since my freshman year. The first year I was a general member on the Writing and Editing committee. During that first year, I wrote a total of 23 articles and was always finding new ways to help. For my second year, I worked as the Senior Editor, publishing more than 80 articles and writing 38 articles. Now in my second semester of junior year, I have implemented a new pitch process for better organization and cleanest, I have already published more than 170 articles, and I have written 16 articles and will continue writing more! Besides working as the Editor-in-Chief, I am a dedicated student at Texas A&M studying Biomedical Sciences. I am also obtaining a minor in both English and Spanish. While not studying diligently, I work in a research lab grinding away, trying to get my name on some research papers (fingers crossed). In my free time, I read, obviously. I am also on the hunt for the best latte to ever bless this earth and love a good game of chess!
