Why You Shouldn’t Feel Ashamed About Going to Therapy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tampa chapter.

Going to therapy is something that each person should take part in. Although you may think, “why should I go to therapy? Why should I tell someone all about myself when I feel fine?” Each person has something they are dealing with, and it can make someone feel like weight and stress have been taken off their shoulders. In society, there are many stereotypes and judgmental people that will tear a person down for going to therapy, as it is a sign of weakness or fragility. Don’t be afraid to do what is best for you! Whether that is talking to a friend, a therapist, or your family. If you find journaling or reading to calm you down, do that! Or if you just need to let it all out and cry. Crying is okay! We all deal with our own feelings and emotions differently; it makes us, us. No one should ever be ashamed of doing something for themselves; it will better you, not make you selfish.
