How to De-Stress Yourself

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tampa chapter.

Stress. That word repeats itself over and over again. Now a days everyone overanalyzes everything. The smallest thing can cause you to overthink, which induces a lot of negative energy. We don’t realize how much we hold onto events. Past, present, future; it doesn’t matter. What does matter is letting go. Obviously, not letting go of everything because the life we live is what makes us who we are, but letting go of the small things, the things that keep you awake at night.

Life is all a gift, a journey so to say. So much time flies by because majority of us are looking for the next best thing and not appreciating what is around us. Instead of looking into the future, look at the now, look at the life you live. If you’re not happy with it, then you have the opportunity to change it. No one defines you, you define yourself. WE are the creators of our own story. From now on, take the time to breathe and look into yourself. To be honest, that is the hardest journey, not what is going on around you but what is going on inside of you. Everyone is so scared to look within. Don’t be scared. Be appreciative of what you have and who you are.

Here’s an exercise: the next time you go to look at your phone to refresh Instagram, Twitter, or any other social network and you see the same thing over and over again, put down your phone and breathe. Inhale and exhale. Take that time to just look at what’s going on around you and let go. We hold onto what is going on social media so much that we have stopped taking the opportunity to reflect on the beauty that is around us. Nothing is too difficult, there is always a way, you just have to be brave enough to let go and live.

"Your life is your art. You are the art. And it's more than the sum total of the jobs you book, the paintings your create, the poetry you write, the money you save, the sales you make. It's your joy and hope and love and passion expressed onto this gigantic canvas called Existence." - Anthony Meindl
