Halloween is just a few weeks away, making it the perfect time to start binge-watching the seasonal classics. If you’re anything like me and hate the gruesome thriller movies, plenty is still out there to get in the fall mood.

Halloween Town (1998) and Twitches (2005)

Growing up, my favorites consisted of Halloween Town and Twitches. Although they have the cheesy 2000s feel, I can’t help loving how reminiscent they are of my childhood. Both movies follow the storyline of girls figuring out their powers with the help of family.

Girl vs Monster (2012)

Another teenage-focused movie is Girl vs. Monster, starring Olivia Holt. And I have to say the soundtrack does not disappoint. She faces the usual teenage drama with a bit of a twist.

Casper (1995)

Another easy watch is Casper, who thankfully is a cute ghost, unlike the ones in horror movies like The Conjuring.

Hubie Halloween (2020)

A more recent film is Hubie Halloween, starring Adam Sandler, and seriously, no movie can be that scary with Adam Sandler in it.

When Harry Met Sally (1989)

There are also several I love to watch this time of the year that are less Halloween-focused. The first is When Harry met Sally. This 1980s romcom fits the friends-to-lovers genre. Even though it is not primarily set in the autumn months, something about its simplicity and outdoor New York scenes makes it the perfect watch. For those who haven’t seen it, I would say it’s similar to the ambiance of Gilmore Girls.

The Harry Potter Series

My last recommendation is any of the Harry Potter movies, or even better, each one chronologically. However, these are just some of my favorites. There are plenty out there that go great with some candy and apple cider.

I am currently a sophomore at the University of Tampa and plan on graduating in the spring of 2026. I'm majoring in graphic design with a minor in advertising. I am originally from Philly. I enjoy drawing, watching movies, and going to the beach as well as travel. I hope to study abroad during my time at Tampa so that I can explore new places and meet new people.
