1.    Lady Bird (2017)

Lady Bird is a beautiful coming of age piece featuring some absolute icons. Saoirse Ronan and Laurie Metcalf lead this stunning teen drama portraying the relationship between a mother and daughter. Throughout the film, we follow Lady Bird as she navigates her senior year of high school. As she is a bit of a rebel, her mother is constantly trying to bump her onto “the right path.” This film showcases the struggle we all felt as teenagers and it showcases the beautiful relationship between a girl and her mother.

 

2.    Sabrina (1954)

Sabrina is an iconic film from the 1950s. The story follows the daughter of a man who works for a wealthy family. Over the years, the girl finds herself enamored by the youngest son. Motivated by her love, she heads off to Paris and transforms from a chauffeur’s daughter, to an elegant style icon. Turning heads, she returns home and finds her love placed in an unexpected place. Audrey Hepburn, William Holden, and Humphrey Bogart lead this stunning black and white love story.

 

3. Call Me by Your Name (2017)

Call Me by Your Name follows two young men in a small town in Italy. In the Italian countryside, we watch as Elio and Oliver explore new ideas and follow new paths. Throughout the film, you get to watch a new friendship rapidly evolve into a stunning romance. Artsy imagery, music, and young love puts this stunning LGBT drama at the frontline of modern cinema. Timothee Chalamet and Armie Hammer give bold performances in this emotional story.

 

4. Some Like It Hot (1959)

Some Like It Hot features none other than the woman, the mystic, the icon, Marilyn Monroe. She plays a jazz musician in an all-female band bound for the sunshine state. Among the women are two straight men dressed in drag trying to escape after witnessing a murder. Trouble ensues as one of the men falls in love with Marilyn, and she with her… wait… him! This musical features the struggles these women face as they travel across the country. An instant classic, it pushes boundaries and challenges ideals… especially in 1959!

 

5. Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019)

Portrait of a Lady on Fire is a stunning French film set in the 18th century. It follows two women as they form a stunning friendship that blossoms almost overnight. Artist Marianne is sent under the guise of a walking companion to watch over Heloise, who has recently lost her sister. Heloise’s mother has sent for Marianne to paint a portrait of her daughter with one catch, Heloise refuses to pose. This French film features beautiful artwork, 18th century fashion, and unexpected romance. Like Call Me By Your Name, this new LGBT film is one for the books!
