Orange Out: The benefits of shopping at the SU Bookstore

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Syracuse chapter.

As freshmen swarm into Syracuse for the first time, they will come across two popular shops — The Schine Student Center, home to the SU Bookstore, and Marshall Street, where Manny’s is located. Of course, as freshmen they will want to deck themselves out in orange and blue, and the choice of where to purchase their ‘Go Orange’ T-shirts is a critical one.

The differences between the SU bookstore and Manny’s should not be taken lightly. There are some serious factors to consider, including payment method, specialty items, and location. Both of these stores sell exactly what SU students want: T-shirts, hats, game day beads, and face paint. But, one thing that sets apart the SU Bookstore is the PINK apparel made special for SU’s female population. Right as you walk into the store, bedazzled Ottos and sparkly yoga pants grab your attention. These are special handcrafted products that can’t be found anywhere else on SU’s campus!

The Schine Student Center is also central to SU’s campus. Students travel in and out of this building up to three times a day—the location makes it easier for most students to stop in between classes and grab something as opposed to trekking all the way to Marshall Street.

Along with the SU bookstore’s great location, the payment method at the bookstore is much more convenient. Students can use their SU Bookstore account to pay for their purchases, which makes life so much easier. Students don’t have to go to an ATM machine or have to deal with cash; they can just swipe their card and sign.

Overall, while Manny’s may be the “preferred” orange store on campus, the SU Bookstore is in a convenient spot with cool clothing styles you can’t find anywhere else.
