As midterms come to an end and we begin to worry about the next steps in our college paths, there is one crucial thing I think all students should remember: stay organized! Being a student is hard, but remembering all of our duties is even harder, so here are 5 easy ways to stay organized and keep life simple.

Get up at the same time every day

Try to make a schedule where your classes start at the same time every day. Not only does this help your body adjust to being up, but it keeps you on track with your daily routine. Make sure to leave time for making your bed, and eating a good breakfast!

Have a calendar handy

Believe it or not this tool is the simplest form of organization there is at college. I have one hanging in my room, one that I carry with me to write down assignments (like a planner), and then my phone calendar to set reminders and such. You may not need this many sources of the same thing, but for me, seeing what I need to do everywhere I go keeps me on track.

Clean your space

Not only is this common courtesy for those you live with, but it is also a great destressing tool I have learned. Rearrange your room, vacuum, or do laundry to take a break from other responsibilities. These small chores may be something you’ve been putting off and this is the perfect way to check them off your to-do list and stay organized.

Go through your notebooks/binders/folders

Many of us hoard papers that we definitely don’t need, and when it comes time for us to find the syllabus from the beginning of the year we can’t. Reason being is because it’s buried in the plethora of other papers, envelopes, and doodles we made during our lectures. Make sure to go through these items once in awhile and only keep the things that are most important to you at that time.

Get your assignments done early/for when they need to be

Procrastination and organization are measures that are tested when we go to college. Throughout my time here, though, I can say that getting your work done right after classes let out makes for a less stressful day. If you choose to do this, you won’t be staying up all hours of the night trying to finish your studies, nor will you be stressing out about all of your other responsibilities. Take the initiative and get that work done!
