The recent death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg had me reflect on some of my favorite moments of her. Those moments are shown in my favorite documentary ‘RBG’, directed by Julie Cohen and Besty West. The documentary was nominated for an Academy Award for best documentary and won a MTV Movie and TV award for best Real Life Hero in 2019.The documentary shows Ginsburg’s life and what she does besides serving as a Supreme Court Justice.

Two of my favorite parts of the movie was Ruth’s friends and family. I loved learning about Ruth’s family and her husband Marty. Marty prioritized Ruth’s career, which a lot of men wouldn’t do back in the day. He would cook dinner and would crack jokes to Ruth after a long day of making history. Ruth said, “He was the first boy I ever knew who cared that I had a brain.” She also had two kids, Jane and James, who supported their mom everyday. Jane who would later follow in her mom’s footsteps is an American Attorney.

Ruth’s friendship with Justice Scalia, showed that you can disagree and be friends. They were opposites in the court house but enjoyed the same activities. One of their favorite activities was going to see operas. They would also spend New Years Eve together every year with their families. They loved traveling the world and trying new things, such as riding camels.

While working in the Supreme Court Ruth Badger Ginsberg became an inspiration to the Gen Z generation and came up with the meme, Notorious RBG as well as creating the saying “You Can’t Spell Truth Without Ruth.” The documentary is intended for younger audience members and showcased how she proved that women can do anything in the world. She was fierce and champion of women’s rights. Everyone should watch ‘RBG’ and learn more about Ginsburrg’s accomplishments and the life she lived.
