DIOR SERRA

By Georgia Polemenakos

Class: 2016

Hometown: Peabody, Massachusetts

Major: Broadcast Journalism

Sign: Pisces

Who knew the social media could turn a local Suffolk University student into a North Shore celebrity. Dior has over 3,000 followers on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Her fashion sense and her love for taking pictures is what attracts so many followers. Over the past 5 years her life has transformed from a normal teenager to a social media queen.

Internet celebrity Dior Serra’s arrival at Suffolk University has created quite the buzz, but life in the spotlight isn’t always as glamorous as it seems. I had the chance to sit down with a Massachusetts social media guru, Dior Serra, to see what her life is like being ‘famous’ on the Internet.

Georgia: Why did you decide to come to Suffolk University?

Dior: Last semester I attended Arizona State University. I wanted to get as far away from my hometown as possible and start over where no one would know me; I never had intensions of coming back. Before I started to feel homesick I joined a sorority, “KAPPA KAPPA GAMMA.” I loved it at first and made amazing friends, but I realized my family made me the happiest and that’s what I wanted to surround myself with for the next four challenging years of my life. I also began to feel stuck on campus and realized that I am much more of a city girl. I applied to Suffolk University, got an academic scholarship and more financial aid, and that sealed the deal for me.

Georgia: How did you become famous on the Internet? Why do you think so many fans are interested in you?

Dior: It really came out of nowhere, and I am not really all that sure how it happened. I do have a very unique name that makes me stand out, it kind of just sticks, like “that girl Dior.” It is very memorable. I also take a lot of pictures and I love fashion and style. I find it rather funny how I suddenly became so well known, and always crack jokes about it with friends and family, but people never see the harsh side of it. Every single day I have to deal with a “hater,” from people that do not even know me.

Georgia: Has anyone ever asked you for a picture in public? How do you feel about it and why?

Dior: Yes, all the time, almost every time I go out. I used to work at Finish Line and people would come into the store just to try to get a picture. I personally would rather not take pictures with people I do not know because it creates more drama and I don’t consider myself a real celebrity. Hopefully someday if I get the chance to do E! News then I’ll take pictures (haha).

Georgia: How do you describe your style? Who inspired it?

Dior: My mother has inspired my style. I love to go shopping with my mother and she always suggests cute outfits for me to wear. I like to buy brands such as Burberry and Louis Vuitton, what girl doesn’t, but I also shop at Marshall’s, and Tj Maxx just like everybody else.

Georgia: What is your favorite past-time?

Dior: I love to hang out with my family, go shopping with my mom, spend time with my boyfriend, and I absolutely love to work out.

Georgia: What do you think makes you into a good role model?

Dior: I always like to say, “Take your passion and make it happen, because it is possible.” This is my favorite quote and I love to use it to make the people I love and care for be better, and to push them to be the best that they can.

Georgia: What are some of your major accomplishments?

Dior: I made the Deans List at Arizona State University with a 3.6 GPA. I won the Peabody High School Fashion Show 3 years in a row. I won the Keys To Success Award and in DECA made it to states. I have always been a very determined person, I like to prove people wrong and always set my mind to get what I want. I also was nominated Barstool U smoke show of the day for the month of December 2012, which added to the fame I suppose.

Georgia: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Dior: Married with a huge family because I love kids! I love fashion and to be on camera so my dream job would be to be a reporter on E news.

Georgia: If you could be on any Reality TV Show, which one would it be and why?

Dior: I would love to have my own reality t.v. show. I think it would be good for people to see just how much I go through and how many things I juggle on a day-to-day basis because I guarantee you that it is way more than what some people do in their entire life. I would also like to show people the harsh side to the fame that I have to deal with; it isn’t always fun and glamorous like many people think.

Georgia: What do you hope to accomplish here at Suffolk University?

Dior: I hope to make it on to the Deans List every semester. I hope to leave Suffolk with a good resume, and a degree in Broadcast Journalism.

Mackenzie's the name, Campus Correspondant for Suffolk is my game.
