Top 5 Apps for a Less Stressful Semester!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Strath chapter.

We all know what happens at this point in the semester – you’ve slept through the last 4 lectures, all your notes have mysteriously disappeared and you’ve come to the conclusion that if it’s not compulsory… it’s not worth it.

If you have a smartphone or tablet, we’ve got the apps that will get you back on top in time for exam season. Here are our top 5 apps that will make uni life that much easier:

  1. Notability

Import your lecture slides to this app, then write, type and draw diagrams over them to ensure you remember every snippet of information. Also great for reading through PDF documents and highlighting important information. And, most impressively, Notability allows you to voice record lectures so you can review them later come exam time!

  1. Google Calendar

This app is a saviour for ensuring you remember every lecture, tutorial, workshop, seminar and meeting. Just set up using your Gmail account and create your timetable – you can repeat the same events every week so it won’t take you too long, and your life will become so much more organised. This can also be set to sync with your smartphone’s own calendar and notifications can be created to remind you of events. Never double-book yourself again!

  1. Trello

In our opinion, the most thorough to-do-list app available! Create your own board with a list for each of your subjects, then add checklists to tick off each item as you complete it. Set deadlines for each list item and order them by priority. Really easy to work with and perfect for ensuring you get everything done on time.

  1. Scanbot

Got a handout but worried you’ll lose the paper? Need to copy a friend’s notes? Look no further than Scanbot. Take a photo of the document, and the app will create a clear, black-and-white photocopy, with no need for a scanner. Such a timesaver!

  1. University of Strathclyde app

This is one specific to Strath students, and so useful for finding your way around campus. Building codes can be so confusing, especially if rooms are changed at the last minute. Rather than frantically texting your friends for help, just check the map function on the Strathclyde app. It shows all the building codes and where each building is situated, meaning you’ll never feel lost again!

Have you tried any of these apps? Can you think of any other helpful applications for university life? Let us know!
