This year, I feel as though I have had more bad days than good days, and I know I am not alone in that. I am here to tell you that it’s okay to break down a little. We have had a long hard year with a pandemic, lots of isolation, navigating online school, a new president, and social movement tension. Not to mention the personal issues we all have going on in the background. Bad mental health days are going to feel long, and never-ending, and most days uncomfortable, but you need to go easy on yourself. Your bad days will not last forever, the sun will come back out and things will get better. If you are anything like me, you probably think I’m just trying to make you feel better and there is no truth to what I’m saying. I am with you and I feel that way sometimes too. Although, I am also someone who has had a plethora of bad days this year, thought the world was crumbling around me, and still am here writing to you today. You cannot blame yourself for what you didn’t get done during your bad days. So what if you didn’t finish that paper, or if you missed a class? I am not promoting falling behind in school, but your mental health can be more important than that assignment or that class for just one day. Somedays you need to do what’s best for you to get through the day, and that’s okay. So allow yourself a break for those mental health days, you’ll thank me for it later, and the sun will always come back out.
