HC Stockton Asks: What Women Inspire You?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stockton chapter.

In honor of National Women’s History Month, Her Campus Stockton asked students what women in their life inspire them and why. Here are their responses:

Sam Ard ’17

I’m inspired by my mom because she’s my best friend. She’s very independent and still has a lot fun. She never lets her age define what she’s capable of. We’re very close and always find time to do things we enjoy together.

Arianna Hackett ’17

My sister inspires me to be more carefree, relaxed and easy-going, whereas I’m more structured.  She encourages me to try new things!

Maggie Shiffler ’18

My mom inspires me because I’m one of six kids and she always finds a way to put us before her!

John Johnson ’17

Angelina Jolie inspires me because she’s amazing!

Shane Rinier ’18

My Aunt is an inspiration to me because she’s just such a good person. She’s a nurse, always happy, looks out for our family and is a Disney freak!

Casey Kenney-Erdman ’16

Dr. Button is pushing me to go to grad school and has taught me so much and anything that she teaches can be applied on local level.

Emmalee Holaday ’16

Laurie Dutton started the Women’s Center and she’s given women at our school a lot of resources that they otherwise may not be able to have, such as relief for victims of sexual assault.

Shaun Steinman ’16

My grandmom, for getting through breast cancer while continuing to support our family.

Ben Gully ’16

Katy Perry inspires me because I often feel like a plastic bag.

Of course the HC girls had to get in on the fun too!

Savannah Gaeckler ’18

Taylor Swift inspires me because she’s overcome bullying and heartbreak and has grown to become a super successful woman. It doesn’t hurt that she’s incredibly talented and has written some of my favorite songs either!

Jess Speese ’18

I grew up listening to Fleetwood Mac, which was the band she was apart of before she had her solo career. I think she’s a strong, independent woman and she was a female icon in the music industry at a time when mostly men ruled the scene. I think she helped pave the way for female artists to have their own solo careers, and not just be a part of a male-dominated band.
