What is Her Campus? Who are they trying to have as their audience? Why is it at St. Kate’s? How can I get involved?

These are valid questions if you’ve seen posts about Her Campus or have heard people whispering it on campus! Hopefully, I am able to get you answers and if not, at least to get you asking even more questions.

What is her campus? Her Campus is the #1 new-media brand for the empowered college woman. To learn a little more about how Her Campus was started and how it’s been beneficial, please visit https://www.hercampus.com/about-us

So why is Her Campus at St. Kate’s? My name is Andrea Duarte and I am a third-year studying quite a few things: political science, women’s studies, communications and journalism. My passions brought me to the conclusion of needing to bring Her Campus to St. Kate’s. I began the long, strenuous process of Her Campus St. Kate’s November 2016. If you recall, last November we had the presidential elections. After the announcement of the new leader of this country, our campus had a few conversations, but I felt like there had not been enough of them or enough information coming from our newspapers on campus. As Katie’s we are told to fight for social justice, we are told to speak up and be bold, we are told to help our dear neighbor.  That is where Her Campus comes in place, it is a platform where ALL can speak up, educate others, and to learn from.  I want to be talking about Charlottesville, DACA, Black Lives Matter and most recently, the shooting that occurred on our school grounds. This platform is also a form to tell the outside world who St. Catherine University is and who we are as a community.

I want to make sure I am accessible to all who want to take this adventure with Her Campus St. Kate’s in our first full-year at St. Catherine University! I am pictured below.

Who do they want as their audience? Her Campus St. Kate’s wants all students, faculty, staff, etc, on campus to be engaged with the articles, events, and social media. As the founder and campus correspondent I do find the pronoun, ‘her’ campus to be problematic, but my goal is to make it as inclusive as possible. I am always open for suggestions on how Her Campus St. Kate’s could make that better.
