Kathleen O’Reilly

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Vincent chapter.

Name: Kathleen O’Reilly

Major: Music (Music Therapy) and Communication

Year: Junior

Birthday: December 9

Why did you choose your major and what would you like to do after graduation?

When I first came to Saint Vincent, I didn’t know whether I wanted to pursue something in music or public relations, so I came in “undecided”. I ended up becoming a double major. I’m hopeful to become a music therapist in a hospital for children– and on the side– produce wedding videography. Two jobs that may not go together, but hey, we’ll see what God decides!!

What things are you involved with on campus? Sports? Clubs?

I work in the Admissions Office on campus and love giving tours to perspective students. It’s so neat getting to be an influence for someone as they begin to think about the crazy world of college. As for sports, I received about 0% of my family’s athletic genes, so college sports were never quite in the picture for me. Some clubs I’ve enjoyed being a part of include Respect Life Club, Campus Ministry, and SVC Singers.

What are some of your hobbies?

I’m constantly singing or playing an instrument somewhere. I play the violin, harp, guitar and ukulele, and also love the art of ballet. Socializing with everyone is a favorite pastime of mine. If babysitting is considered a hobby, then that is by far my favorite. Little kids make my life so giggly!! ALSO, I consider myself to be the Mens Lacrosse Team’s #1 fan, it that’s a hobby too??? (Go Joey!!!)

What is your favorite memory from Saint Vincent?

My freshman year, my brother Michael entered Saint Vincent’s monastery. It was cool being able to say my brother was a monk, and to this day still humbles me to watch him grow on his journey to become a Benedictine priest. He’s the coolest dude you’ll ever meet.

What is an interesting fact about yourself?

People that don’t quite know me well call me Kathleen, but my family and friends only call me Leenie. My mom made it up when I was a baby, and it stuck ever since.

Who is your biggest role model? Why?

I feel like a broken record because the answer to this question is always my older sister Shannon. She is a rare human being. I don’t think it’s possible to not like Shannon. The love of God just radiates through everything she does. Everything I am is because she taught me through her example. I’m so sappy… but my Dad is right– she’s my built in best friend for life.

What made Saint Vincent feel like home to you?

All of my siblings came to Saint Vincent. This place is my family’s second home!! Everyone who arrives on campus always says the same thing– it just feels “different”. Basically, Saint Vincent is like heaven on earth to me. The atmosphere, the people, the beauty— it all points back to the One who created it for us.

St Vincent '18

Hello there! I am the Campus Correspondent of the Her Campus chapter at Saint Vincent College. As a senior psychology major, I've made the most of my time in undergrad and am excited for all the doors I have opening ahead of me. I can definitely thank Her Campus for giving me invaluable skills. As a future psychologist, I hope that my articles (and the chapter's) are able to make you feel empowered, motivate you to start a conversation, and be kind. As a hero of mine has said, "If you do not take control over your time and your life, other people will gobble it up. If you don't prioritize yourself, you constantly start falling lower and lower on your list."- Michelle Obama. Be the change you want to see in the world, and smile. Always smile!
