Cooking on Campus: Christmas Pretzel Treats

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Olaf chapter.

For most people, the holiday season involves food – lots and lots of food. From the Thanksgiving feast to Christmas cookies to all the tasty treats that come between, the holiday season is a season of feasting. As college students, we anxiously await finals to be over so we can return home to be welcomed by fresh Christmas cookies in the oven (or at least we hope this is the case).

This week’s recipe is an easy Christmas treat for college students. Not quite your mother’s sugar cookies, but with limited kitchen space and time, most stressed college students do not have time to whip up a batch of homemade sugar cookies. Chocolate-covered Christmas pretzels are easy to make and clean up, and they can be shared and stored easily. Use crushed candy canes, Christmas sprinkles, white chocolate, or some of your other favorite Christmas candies to turn chocolate pretzels into festive Christmas treats.

All you need is:

  • Pretzels (rods or mini pretzels)
  • Baking chocolate to melt
  • Sprinkles, candy canes or other decorations

  1. Start by melting the chocolate either in the microwave or on a double boiler on the stove. White or milk chocolate both work fine.
  2. Set up your decorating station. Ready all decorations in bowls and line a baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
  3. Cover the pretzels in chocolate and decorate with sprinkles, etc. while the chocolate is still wet.
  4. Enjoy!
