Cake Walk: Northfield’s New Dessert Sensation

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Olaf chapter.

If you have not yet ventured down to Cake Walk: Custom Cakes and Dessert Bar, you are missing out on one experience that will take your taste buds for a ride!

After a recent visit to the store with a few of my girlfriends, I immediately found that the trip was more than worth it. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. The walls were painted with inspirational, yet witty sayings such as, “Chocolate is the answer, so who cares what the question is.” The employees were friendly and shared that the inspiration for the store’s name came from the owner who wishes to remind customers: life should be the equivalent of a cakewalk. Cake Walk is all about taking the journey of life for what it is, and enjoying the small joys that life can offer – like cookies and cupcakes.

After looking at the vast expanse of desserts, I finally settled on a German Chocolate Cupcake. After taking my first bite, I knew that I would be coming back here often. My girlfriends agreed that these were the best cupcakes that they had ever tasted, and even let me sample some of their desserts. Between tasting Chocolate Peanut Butter Passion, Salted Caramel, and Mint Madness cupcakes, I can honestly say that I was more than satisfied. Every single one of the cupcakes that I had was moist and full of flavor in each bite. As my friend and fellow Ole, Caroline Bressman ’15, said after eating her cupcake, “Cake Walk is easily the George Town dessert store of Northfield!”

So ladies take a word from the wise…do not deny yourself the utter joy that you will get with the consumption of one of Cake Walk’s to-die-for desserts. With finals coming up, all we can do is take life as if it were a cakewalk. So relax a little and distract yourself with the sensational tastes of Nothfield’s very own Cake Walk. I promise you this: your definition of a satisfying dessert will never be the same!

Cake Walk, located on 303 Divison Street in Northfield, is open Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; closed Sundays.
