Summer is my favorite time of the year because you’re able to do so much in a short period of time. I’m especially nostalgic about summer because it may be taken away from us because of the COVID-19 virus. I’ve provided a few of my favorite things I typically do during the summer to help freshen the mood during these unfortunate times.

Boating.

Boating is at the top of my list because it is my all-time favorite summer activity. My family is really into boating and we go out on the lake almost every weekend in the summer. I love getting a nice tan with a warm breeze on my face. It’s also nice to dock and relax in shallow waters with friends and play Frisbee.

Hiking.

Hiking is a great way to get outside during the summer to exercise and get some fresh air. We have some really great spots in the area I’m in, but my favorite is called Green Lakes which has a hiking trail right next to the beautiful water which in fact is very green. I hope sooner rather than later I’ll be able to get outside and go hiking with friends without having to “social distance” ourselves.

Hanging out with Friends.

It’s always great to have the time to hang out with hometown friends. During the year, I am surrounded by college friends, which is great, but it’s also nice to dedicate time to my hometown friends. Whether that be getting a bite to eat or hanging out by the pool, summer allows me to dedicate time to my hometown friends, who I miss very much.

Gardening.

The perimeter of my house is basically a jungle because my mom is really into gardening. Growing up watching her garden, I, fortunately, caught the green thumb trait. I love when it starts to become warm and my mom and I buy flowers to plant around the house. I enjoy gardening vegetables more because it’s nice to see them grow. It’s nice to be able to eat organic vegetables right from your backyard, it gives a sense of accomplishment.

Outdoor Restaurants.

I live in Syracuse, NY which gets buried in snow for a large portion of the year. Going to restaurants in the summer is my favorite thing because of the outside seating and being able to enjoy a meal in the beautiful weather. This is something that may sound silly, but for people who live in almost year-round cold climates, it’s something little we enjoy during the summer days.

I still have hope that I will be able to fulfill my favorite things this summer if COVID-19 ever seems calms down. If that is not the case, it is nice to remember the things I took for granted.
