Mom’s birthday Monday, election Tuesday, life had to keep on trucking Wednesday. I knew I wanted to give my mom something that would not sit on the shelf for eternity and fester, or take up space in the house. I wanted to provide her comfort, self-care, and of course something to curb the sweet tooth in these unprecedented times.

I found something wonderful. It’s so amazing that I’m envious I wasn’t the one to start the business first. That’s how good it is. Let me introduce to you the Happy Box Store (https://happyboxstore.com). It was started by two empowered sisters who wanted to send smiles through the mail. Hannah and Ariel have not only created a fun easy gift, but they also work to support local companies: mission-based, women-owned, and BIPOC-owned businesses.

Happy Box has two options, make your own box, or pick from their specialty curated ones. You can’t go wrong with either choice! I chose to make my own and picked a beautiful light pink, leaf-patterned box. I loaded it with specialty lavender vanilla wild honey from the ‘women-owned’ section and added a rose-infused chocolate bar for both aesthetics and taste. The chocolate bar comes with actual rose petals on it (my mom facetimed me as evidence) and she claimed it tasted very floral! I also included a very necessary hot pink bag of chocolate-covered pretzels labeled “Emergency Chocolates.” These are absolutely essential for road trips, overnights, or a long walk to the movies. Finally, I had to finish it off with a rice spa mask that claims it will induce clear skin. Count me in!

The whole box was a smashing success. I felt happy while sending it, and even happier when watching my mom virtually open it, oohing and ahhing at each bit of joy. She nearly cried of bliss. And I’m sure yours will too. This gift is perfect for anyone and everyone. Who wouldn’t love a box of delight to brighten the day!

Send this to friends, family members, lovers, teachers, babysitters, all of the above. The world is crazy, it’s uncontrollable, but a simple gesture such as Happy Box can go a long long way.
