At one point, we read about a heroic Prince Charming that saves the day or maybe an extremely attractive T.V. character that is perfect in every way. These men have always been the ideal type and gold standard for what we look for in Mr. Right. I’m listing the top 5 T.V. and book boyfriends who set the standard.
No.1: Romeo: As we mature and look back at the renowned love story of Romeo and Juliet, we see that many characters had significant flaws. But that doesn’t mean we couldn’t imagine a love like theirs, 2 star-crossed lovers that have been a blueprint to every love story. But, without a doubt, we can say a man who is willing to die rather than be without you has to be the most romantic thing ever (even if you have only known them for less than a week).
No. 2: Jim Halpert: The prankster himself: for the first 3 seasons, viewers of “The Office” clutch their pearls as they watch Jim and Pam go through a series of ups and downs, denying their love for each other and dating other people. We all knew in the Christmas episode when Jim gifted Pam the blue teacup that they were destined to be together. Jim continually supported Pam through her art career and always made sure Pam was entertained. Their jarring love gives us hope that a romantically funny man would sweep us off our feet.
No. 3: Mr.Darcy: Mr. Darcy is the man most women pray for. The handsome and very wealthy man is not shy when it comes to assuring his lover Elizabeth is comfortable in his presence, and more importantly he’s not afraid to risk it all for the women he loves. Because of this, he holds a place in every young reader’s heart. A true gentleman.
No. 4: Lucas: “One Tree Hill” was filled with twists and tearjerkers for the characters and the viewers. Lucas’ dreaming eyes and confident demeanor have always made him the better Scott brother. Of course, he has a history of putting Peyton and Brooke through many ups and downs. Still, we tend to overlook these qualities with Lucas and place in our mind a gentler image. We all can remember when he professed his love to Brooke in the pouring rain and listed all the reasons why he loves her. Oh, how romantic.
No. 5: Peeta Mellark: Both the Peeta Mellark on paper and screen was a vision of ecstasy. 2 star-crossed killers were forced into a passionless romance to survive The Hunger Games, but we witness their love blossom into something unimaginable. Some may say that the love between Katniss and Gale was the better option; we all know deep down that Peeta and Katniss truly deserved each other. And in the end, they got their happily ever after.
