The time has come, and Halloween is finally here! Since the month of October is coming to an end, I have decided to talk about a horror movie that I think you should watch.

The A24 movie X was written and directed by Ti West, and it’s based in the 1970s where a group of filmmakers set out to make an adult film. They decide to rent a space in reclusive farmland to shoot the movie. The barn the group films in is owned by an unknowing elderly couple. However, when the elderly couple catches them in the act, the filmmakers are forced to fight for their lives.

This movie was great and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. I think that it has a different feel than most horror movies do, as the plot surrounds making adult films. This is your formal disclaimer, DO NOT WATCH THIS WITH YOUR PARENTS. There are many sexual scenes throughout this movie that could cause some uncomfortable tension between you and your parents. Despite that, this movie is definitely a wild ride and it’s also part of a trilogy. The prequel Pearl was recently released, and the third installment will soon follow.

If you’re an avid movie watcher, you will appreciate the cinematography of the movie as it includes split screens and harsh cuts, which is not something popular in many movies today. The authentic 70s feel of the film is fantastic and comical at times and makes for an overall enjoyable film. I do have to say, this film is a little bit of a slow burn. So if you’re too impatient for slow pacing, I do not recommend this film.

Overall I would give this movie 4 stars. It wasn’t my favorite movie I’ve seen this year, but I think it’s a cheeky horror film to watch with your friends this Halloween. I especially loved Jenna Ortega’s performance as Lorraine. If you are not familiar with her work, I would definitely go check out some of her other films. I am also a fan of A24’s other work, so if you love horror or physiological thrillers, their movies are fantastic!
