Name: Ysenia Valdez

This week, our campus celebrity is Ysenia Valdez, the editor in chief of St. Edward’s newest fashion magazine, Cabra. The name derives from the Spanish word “cabra” which means goat, and cleverly enough is our school’s mascot. The name is memorable, trendy, and the magazine itself is bound to be a work of art with Ysenia in charge. Being a junior this year on campus, Ysenia was determined to create this magazine to have something to call her own. We were able to sit down and talk with her about Cabra and the plans she has for this upcoming semester!
What inspired you to establish this magazine?
“I feel like there was never really anything on campus that I felt was my thing. I noticed that everyone dresses nicely and cares about appearance on this campus, and I didn’t understand why this wasn’t already a thing, and why we didn’t have anything like it. This project is very student oriented, so, I’m hoping it’ll expand.”
Is fashion a large part of the way you define yourself?
“Yes and no. I think using the world fashion creates limits, so I would say style. Style is more individualistic, and that’s more me.”
How would you describe your fashion style?
“Classic, minimal, monochromatic with a dose of individuality.”
What are you most looking forward to accomplishing in regards to this organization?
“I am really excited to have a publication that appeals to students. The goal is to have something that caters to the student body, and that students can relate to.”
How can one get involved with Cabra?
Each semester there will be interviews for those who apply by interest. These applicants should have interest in the magazine, style, or fashion. The interviews that will be given will be for people who are committed and genuinely interested in contributing to the magazine.
