This Week We Love: The Great British Sewing Bee

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. Andrews chapter.

This week we love a good revision break. You’ve finished your coursework and should probably start studying for exams, but not yet. Take a break. You deserve it.

I reccommend The Great British Sewing Bee. Yeah I know, it’s not as good as the Bake Off. What could be? It is however, a nice TV show where people do things that require skill, and are genuinely nice. There aren’t enough nice people on reality TV these days. Talent is the most important thing for the contestants to have, talent and time management.

Each week the contestants complete three tasks; a pattern test, an alteration test, and a made to measure test. Between each task they take a break in the cafe across the street for tea! It doesn’t get cuter. The contestants range from big burly men to grandmothers, and they all sew.

It’s hosted by the hilarious Claudia Winkleman, who goes around stressing the contestants out and picking up the technical terms. Her faces when something is going wrong for someone are just hysterical. If you watch it for nothing else, watch for the sexy Savil Row tailor and the inevitable tears from panicked contestants.
