Name: Sarah Brook

Year: 4th Year

Degree: Geography

Star Sign: Gemini

Hometown: Greenwich, London

Sarah is a fourth year Geography student who has definitely made the most of her time at St Andrews: participating in the radio show On the Rocks and bubble TV. Her greatest achievement, in her opinion, occured this year: the founding of the University of St Andrews Tea Society.

Rose-mint is Sarah’s favourite tea. Admittedly a slightly unusual flavour as it can only be found in specialist London shops, perhaps the spread of purchasing power of this tea was her inspiration to found the University of St Andrews Tea Society?! But seriously, how did it not already exist, especially since Sarah only started drinking the delicious beverage when she started university? She hopes that the society will bring tea lovers together, and it’s also a chance to have cake. The society had its first event on Friday in Sandy’s, but members can look forward to a variety of upcoming events including an evening of learning about different tea blends.

Sarah is also interested in media, appearing on the favourite Star Radio Show ‘Musical Statues’ since first year. The show is notorious for its excellent music (although Sarah admits that co-host Imogen Thom picks out the tracks while she actually prefers 80’s music) and fun chat about what’s going on in St Andrews. A stand out moment was the show that included a carousel of different guests: each guest had a ten minute slot which made for a lively and exciting show. In addition, Sarah is a member of Bubble TV through which she films events and societies, including a recent video for the Feminist Society. that has yet to be released. As a member, she been allowed exclusive access to very cool events such as filming Raisin Weekend and being allowed into the area of the foam fight.

Another of Sarah’s activities is golf. She evidently enjoys learning to play, saying that St Andrews is “such a good place to learn golf.” She further adds, “You are never going to learn to play so cheaply anywhere else.” As a member of the ladies golf club, she enjoys the socials and all the other members who “are really nice.” However, playing golf is not enough. The last two years Sarah has been a press office intern during the Dunhill tournament both in St Andrews and at Kingsbarn. This means she’s had the opportunity to interview celebrities such as Mathew Goode and Jamie Doran! Inside scoop reveals Doran was many shades of grey during the interview as he was pretty hungover and therefore slow to respond to her questions- yikes.
