Mr. University Hall: Abraham McCauley

Mr University Hall:  Abraham

‘Come witness the annual Mr St Andrews pageant, where contestants prepare to make fools of themselves in pursuit of the crown! Support your hall and society men as they compete for the title of Mr St Andrews 2013. Cheeky, raunchy, and hilarious, this is a show you won’t want to miss!’

It reads as an enticing advert for all those who wished to support RAG week events. Male students, who had already battled away the competition to be chosen by their hall as a representation of the epitome of male manhood, now faced a gruelling and potentially embarrassing competition to battle it out to win the ultimate title of Mr St Andrews.

What some of the contestants may have found daunting, fitness tasks and showing off their best chat-up lines, Mr University Hall Abraham McCauley was left completely un-phased, who light heartedly described the whole competition as just ‘a bit of banter’. Learning that Abraham is the thirteenth child in a family of fourteen children it seems understandable that he would not be nervous to perform to a large cheering crowd that raised four thousand pounds in ticket sales. Each round during the competition one ‘Mr’ was eliminated, after failing to win over the crowd with tasks such as fitness stamina, sex positions, chat-up lines and ‘special talent’.

Abraham is a first year Chemistry and music student from Downpatrick, Northern Ireland. He is enjoying his time studying in Scotland, the diversity that a St Andrews education has to offer and the opportunity ‘to find his princess’. This summer Abraham described his plans of hoping to return to Sardinia to refresh his Italian that he learnt last summer while living with member of his extended family. When asked about what he enjoyed most about Sardinia he replied that he liked ‘living like an Italian teenager’ with nights centralising on food and conversation. Though Abraham did not win the title of Mr St Andrews, ending the night in a respectable fourth place, it is clear that he thoroughly enjoyed himself and more importantly enjoyed being part of an event that raised so much money for such a great cause.
