The Best Christmas Movies Ever

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. Andrews chapter.

Nothing says Christmas like cuddling up on the couch with a warm drink and a festive movie. We list our favourites:

The Holiday – Let’s be honest I’ve watched this movie in June. The characters are like old friends, and while we know life never actually works out like this we can still dream right? Best bit – Jude Law and his adorable children in their tent.

Frozen – It’s not really a Christmas movie, but it is about snow and winter and family. I think it counts. It just came out so make a date to go to the cinema for some Disney cuteness and a few power ballads along the way. Best bit – Sven the reindeer and the Trolls.

Elf – Who doesn’t want to see Will Ferrell as the tallest elf in Santa’s workshop? It’s funny, weird, extremely quotable, and sort of touching. Like every Will Ferrell movie. Best bit – I can’t choose one because it’s all so funny!

The Polar Express – This is on the list because in my family we used to read the book every Christmas Eve. The book is beautiful and so is the movie. If you haven’t seen it in a while it deserves a re-watch. Best bit – Josh Hutcherson of Hunger Games fame played the little boy!

Love Actually – Don’t hurt me, there has been a lot of negative press around this film recently. I think we all understand that nobody falls in love as quickly as people in the movies. It’s a festive movie with a bunch of great actors, really what’s not to like? Best bit – Rowan Atkinson and Alan Rickman at the jewelry counter tied with Hugh Grant dancing through 10 Downing Street.

Did we miss any? What are your favourite holiday movies?
