My Experience With Her Campus South Carolina

For starters, I want to say that I am very thankful for everything that Her Campus South Carolina has presented me with. As a freshman who could barely find the meeting rooms on time, I did not expect to love this organization as much as I do now.

My freshman year was one of the toughest years of my life. I experienced so much mental trauma and even ended up in the ER due to it. One of the things that kept me going was Her Campus, and it always has been. Starting with my second semester of freshman year, I walked into an interest meeting and just felt like I belonged. I remember making an instant connection with the president at the time, and ever since I have wanted to follow in her footsteps.

Moving forward to the first meeting I attended, I literally could not find the room. Once I did, I felt so embarrassed but that soon faded away when I realized I was in a room full of women who are just like me. I was finally in a place where I was fitting in. It was comforting to know that there was no judgement, because we have all been that lost freshman before.

Due to the coronavirus, a lot of the events that I helped plan were cancelled. It was sad to see those not happen, especially since event planning is one of my favorite things. At the beginning of the fall semester in 2020, I officially began writing editorial content for my chapter. It was so amazing to see that people loved to read my pieces. It helped me get my muse back and my passion for writing back.

Let’s jump ahead to earlier this year, where I met one of my best friends. This chick is the best person in my life and it is crazy how alike we are. We became friends over a sappy break up article that I wrote. We planned to hangout but she had car trouble and I kid you not, I drove her an hour and a half away to where her car was and my jaw hurt afterwards from all the conversations that happened on the drive.

Fall of 2021 was my first semester being on the executive team for the chapter, I was so excited for it! Marketing and Events Director was awesome, albeit being away from campus for an internship. Even though I was eight hours away, I still made some awesome friends virtually and I am now meeting all these lovely ladies in person!

So, what is happening now? I am the current president for Her Campus South Carolina. The two presidents before me I have absolutely adored and I hope the other chapter members feel the same towards me. I owe so much gratitude to this organization for pushing me to always be a team player, to be the best version of myself that I can be, and to always support women and this girl gang. I am beyond excited to lead this team of amazing women who have always shown their kindness for each other.

To my fellow chapter members, thank you so much for all that you do. I am so appreciative for each and every one of you. To anyone who wants to join this amazing girl gang, go for it! We are beyond excited to have you.
