5 Halloween Costumes You Probably Already Have in Your Closet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at South Carolina chapter.

Picture this: It is just a few days until Halloween and all Amazon orders will be arriving after the 31st. Party City is packed, and you have already blown your Halloween costume budget on pumpkin candles and candy corn. Instead of accepting defeat and defaulting to a Halloween night in, why not turn to your closet and its potential to create the perfect Halloween costume? Here are five costumes you can grab straight from your closet!

Scarecrow

This costume is perfect for my fellow flannel lovers. As someone who is always cold and constantly wishing I had brought an extra layer, this is the Halloween costume of my dreams. It is so cute, easy, and, most importantly, comfortable! To create this look, grab your favorite flannel, jeans, and boots. Use some eyeliner to draw on a couple of stitches and a patchwork nose to give yourself that classic scarecrow look.

Beanie Baby

Growing up, Beanie Babies were always a favorite toy of mine. I loved that I could have a mini stuffed animal of my choosing, complete with its own name, birthday, and personality. Although this costume does require you to get a bit crafty, it is totally worth it. Dress head to toe in the animal print of your choosing and create a DIY stuffed animal tag out of paper and string to wear as a necklace. Bonus points if you write a bio about yourself on the inside!

skier

Halloween night can get cold, so what better way to warm up than by wearing ski gear? Dig out your old ski goggles from the back of your attic and pair it with some leggings, a winter jacket, and a warm hat. If you are looking for a costume that is practical and budget friendly, this is the costume for you!

When life gives you lemons…

I’m sure you have heard the saying, “when life gives, you lemons make lemonade.” Well, when life gives you lemons, make it into a punny Halloween costume. Deck yourself out in all of the yellow clothes you can find and label a name tag “life”. Steal some lemons for your kitchen to use as a prop and you are done! This last minute costume will guarantee you a couple of laughs as well as a happy bank account!

cady from mean girls

Now, you could deck yourself out in a wedding dress and face paint and go as an “ex-wife” like Cady did in the movie, but that would likely require a trip to the Halloween store. Instead, grab a pink polo and some jeans to replicate Cady’s iconic Wednesday attire. Totally fetch.

With a college student’s schedule (and budget), finding the perfect Halloween costume may seem impossible. Try out these costume ideas to prevent that last minute Halloween costume stress!
