After having the coronavirus three times now, I’ve realized that my tastebuds have changed significantly. Some of these are for the better, as in I am the biggest fan of guacamole now, and some of the changes made me say goodbye to some beloved snacks.

Ketchup

After my first time of the coronavirus in November of 2020, I have loved ketchup, specifically with McDonald’s fries. I don’t know what it is about it, but it’s just what I want whenever I am sick now. Ketchup in general is my go to condiment now, and it used to be ranch, but sadly I don’t think ketchup and pizza goes well together. I promise I’m not dipping my steak in ketchup, but chicken nuggets and fries with ketchup are a match made in Heaven.

Cool Ranch Doritos

Also known as the blue Doritos to my cousins. I used to love these and could eat them any day, but after a few months post-coronavirus, I can’t stand them anymore! The taste is super weird and it almost feels as if I’m eating straight mustard. The two have no correlation whatsoever. I miss eating them, but maybe it’s for the better so that I don’t snack on them all day.

Avocados

This is a super new one that came after my second time of the coronavirus. I swore that I would never eat anything produced by an avocado, but here I am making avocado toast and whipping up some guacamole. I didn’t expect this change at all, it was one of the only foods that I would not eat. I’m actually happy about this one since the fruit is at every restaurant in the modern day, so it makes it easy for me to try new things everywhere without being scared of it having avocado on it! I’m not kidding when I say I was scared to actually try it.

Peanut Butter

I swear I used to be like a dog with peanut butter, I could eat it straight out of the jar with a spoon. I cannot stand peanut butter now, it’s just got this weird texture to it and the taste is super nutty. I know it’s made from peanuts, but it’s like I’m a peanut connoisseur now and can tell you how roasted the peanut was before it was made into a butter. I realized for a while that I had actually bought sugar-free peanut butter and thought that was the issue, but I bought the regular Jif brand peanut butter that I grew up eating and loving, and the taste is so different now! I hate this because I used to eat it on toast, with yogurt, with granola, anything I could!

Black Beans

This one isn’t as drastic as the others because I liked them before having coronavirus, but I absolutely love them post-virus. I’ve been wanting to adapt to a vegetarian diet and black beans are a great substitute for chicken or ground beef. I have low iron so black beans are super good for me anyways, which makes eating them better. I blame this one on Chipotle and my carnitas bowls! I’m actually super thankful for loving black beans a little too much because that saying “We have to eat rice and beans” when money gets tight is already something I eat on a weekly basis and enjoy it. Plus my grandmother helps keep me stocked up with them!

Now if only I could enjoy jalapeños… That’s something I don’t think I’ll ever be able to eat but stuffed jalapeños look oh so yummy! Has COVID-19 changed your tastebuds or even your smells?
