John Angle: Family Weekend Chair

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMU chapter.

The man running this weekend’s show is none other than John Angle, SMU junior and Nashville native! Heavily involved on SMU’s campus, Angle has been on Student Foundation since his freshman year, a member of the Union, DSP, Sigma Phi Epsilon and he is also an SMU tour guide. Currently studying Accounting and History with a minor in Spanish, Angle is not only diverse in academics but also in his SMU involvement.

Bringing his own unique flair to this year’s Family Weekend, Angle has dubbed this weekend as Texas themed to celebrate with SMU families. A true people person, Angle is the man to make mom and dad rave about SMU’s campus.

Why did you want to be Family Weekend chair this year?
I love getting to know people. I love making connections with others, which is probably why I love being a tour guide so much. I like being in such an involved process and event like Family Weekend.

What events are going on this weekend?
The Texas themed weekend will have a Taste of Dallas dinnner featuring food from Patrizio’s, Mi Cocina, Nick and Sam’s, Society Bakery and Rathbun’s Blue Plate Kitchen. There will also a talent show featuring 15 student acts, with members of the SMU community serving as judges. The main event, the football game, will be off to a great start due to the 2,800 SMU students, friends and family boulevarding with Student Foundation to eat some great BBQ.

What do most people not know about Family Weekend?
There are actually about 50 SMU programs involved with Family Weekend besides Student Foundation. All of the sub-schools host events as well as student organizations. Also, my committee of eight is really helpful and each committee member is a chair of a specific event during the weekend.

Fun Facts About John Angle:

  • He can’t ride a bike.
  • He’s visited 38 countries.
  • He’s an only child.
  • His dream job would be serving as a U.S. Senator.
Caroline Wright, a double major in Business Marketing and Communication Studies at Southern Methodist University, is thrilled to be part of the Her Campus Team.
