College Student Friendly Friendsgiving Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMU chapter.

With Thanksgiving around the corner, it’s time for the most important Thanksgiving tradition of them all, Friendsgiving! With dorm rooms and college budgets, Friendsgiving may have an additional level of difficulty to it, besides just getting all your friends to agree on a date (which is always a hassle regardless of the occasion). Whether you are going home for Thanksgiving or staying here at SMU, we have some tips to have the most fun and stress free Friendsgiving!

1. Get it To Go

If you’d rather eat a delicious meal with friends in the comfort of your commons, have your friends pitch in and go get a thanksgiving meal to go! Eatzi’s is the cute little market just a few minutes from campus and is the perfect go-to for all things Thanksgiving, while also giving you that home cooked feeling.

2. Try Dorm Room Friendly Meals

Let me preface this by saying you probably won’t be able to have a 3 course Thanksgiving dinner with this option. But, that shouldn’t stop you from having a happy Thanksgiving. Try using instant mashed potatoes and microwave macaroni and cheese in a mug to supplement your deli roasted turkey breast for a budget friendly meal to share!

3. Go Out To Eat

If you’re like me and live in the dorms, cooking isn’t exactly easy with a Keurig and a community microwave. Sometimes the only option you have is to leave it to the experts.  Just because it’s not homemade doesn’t mean you can’t have an authentic Turkey Day experience. Some restaurants you can choose are Mudhen Meat and Greens, a health food restaurant with a hipster vibe located in the Dallas Farmer’s Market.

Whichever option you choose, you’re sure to have a great Thanksgiving as long as you’re surrounded by wonderful company, which is what’s to really be thankful for!
