The 10 Most Iconic Boulevarding Songs of the 2016 Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMU chapter.

We all have that one song we relate to the Boulevard, whether it got us “closer” to our friends or it made you ‘jump around’ with pure joy. I went around campus recently and asked some students what their favorite Boulevarding songs were and here are some of the songs they related to these glorious sunny days filled with football and beer. Just some of the various songs we could call iconic for our boulevarding tradition. (At least for this year…)

10. “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd

Roll tide roll am I right? If this doesn’t come on at least once during your time at the Boulevard, then you’re either lost or not Boulevarding properly. This is a fact.

9. “Broccoli” by Dram

Ok, let me point something out really quick. Our generation is obsessed with turning fruits and vegetables into something that they’re not supposed to be. If someone comes out with an eggplant or peach song that will be the death of me. Until then, I’m more than fine with listening to this song in all of the tents.

8. “Come on Eileen” by Dexy’s Midnight Runners

When the chorus hits you know everyone’s going to be singing on the top of their lungs and jumping around, recklessly spilling beer everywhere. The best part is, you won’t even notice all the beer because you’ll be too busy calling to Eileen! Who even is Eileen?!

7. “Get Low” by Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz

To the windows and to the walls everyone. This song has had us all turnt since 2002 and it’s still going strong. In the wise words of Lil Jon, “yeaaaaaah!”

6. “Chicken Fried” by Zac Brown Band

This song is especially fitting when Canes is being catered at every tent. It makes you realize that it’s the little things in life that mean the most, I mean have you ever seen anyone eating fried chicken while being sad? (Sorry all my vegetarian, vegan, etc. peeps but it’s true.)

5. “Trap Queen” by Fetty Wap

I’m like hey what’s up, hello every time this song comes on. Everyone turns into trap queen all of a sudden and you got people grinding and doing the whip left and right (even if they’re not good at it). Also everyone’s suddenly screaming numbers, like 1738! Remind me how this number is relevant again Fetty?!

4. “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond

Oh good times never felt so good with this classic. As soon as the chorus comes on you know exactly what to do, but don’t worry about the rest of the song since most people just drunkenly mumble along anyways. Props to you if you actually know the whole song!

3. “Jump Around” by House of Pain

This song will get you shook. Literally. Everyone will start jumping and suddenly the whole place Is shaking. Since the whole song is just hype music while screaming jump about a thousand times, it becomes a solid go to when you want people to go wild (especially drunk people). Jump around!

2. “Year 3000” by the Jonas Brothers

When I heard this song at the Boulevard this year it honestly made me wonder why I hadn’t heard it in so long. It represents everything I loved as a teenager, and hearing it just brought back so many memories of Radio Disney teenage angst. P.S. If you don’t watch any other video on this article I 10/10 recommend you watch this one.

And the most iconic song on this year’s Boulevard is definitely:

1. “Closer” by the Chainsmokers

This song was probably the most over played song on campus this semester, and still is, so naturally it has to be No 1. Regardless of how many times I’ve heard it, It’s still lit. I don’t even care if I still don’t have that Rover!

Well Mustangs there you have it! Do you agree with this list? Let us know what other Boulevard songs you think are iconic!
