7 Signs That You and Your Mom Are Actually The Gilmore Girls

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMCVT chapter.

Moms are nearly the most important things in our lives. Believe it or not, you couldn’t live without them. Aside from her, literally, pushing you into life and every stage of it, the two of you have been through a lot. With no competition, your friendship is longer than any other; you spent nine tough months together that no one else ever could. If the bond between you and your mom has only gotten stronger and you find it hard to believe your umbilical cord isn’t still connected, then there is a good chance you are as close to each other television’s favorite mother-daughter duo: Lorelai and Rory Gilmore.

1. You have a countless number of inside jokes.

Nevermind just living inside her for nine months, it seems like you have cracked jokes at each other since the start too. Literal inside jokes! You have the same sense of humor, so anything that makes you chuckle is sure to make her do the same. Most people think you’re crazy, but your innate witticism is just too extreme for others to understand. Even from hundreds of miles away, you don’t go a day without belly-laughing together.

2. Your friendship is the only long distance relationship you can wholeheartedly believe in.

Moving to college might have separated you physically, but you still talk so much that it doesn’t seem so bad at all! Phone calls, FaceTimes, text messages, and even funny instagram tags are a daily occurrence. You know exactly what each other’s weekly schedules look like… including when you do and don’t plan to wear underwear.

3. She always wants what is best for you.

She understands school is stressful on its own, but never fails to add a little bit more pressure to the scheme of things. Mom likes to make sure that you have a plan for the future and that you will be more successful than ever imagined. It’s your life, but she still needs all the details. Somedays, it might seem like she has more of an idea of where you’re going than you do.

4. She hates when you worry too much.

Yes, of course she wants you to ace all of your tests and earn exceedingly high grades, but there comes times when you’re trying your hardest and it just doesn’t seem to be enough. She will always try and boost your confidence by complimenting your strong suits like saying how witty and pretty you are.

Yes Mom, the ultimate combo. I’ll fail this test and become the next Chelsea Handler. No biggie.

5. She is always down to hang.

It’s okay to stay in by yourself some weekends. Your body will thank you. Mom is always there to hang no matter what the plans are. If you have a solo movie night, there is a good chance she’ll want to do the same. She’ll help you pick a good flick and will most likely watch the same one from home. Long distance movie nights are possible, and the two of you can prove it.

6. She is to blame for your weird food habits.

However, when do you decide to go out with the homies, you wake up with the oddest hangover cravings. You know you can blame her for the sudden urge to binge eat McDonald’s cheeseburgers. She also always taught you that pizza was appetizing no matter the condition: hot or cold, morning or night. This fact still holds to be true, and luckily, Alliot brunch has pizza on lock.

7. She is your ride or die.

It might have started out as a joke when you were too young to drive and instead of being your taxi driver you told your friends she was your “ride or die,” but she really has always been your go to. She helps you in every and any way that she possibly can. She makes it so that everything works out and nothing can go wrong. She dries tears, induces laughs, and finds the TV remote when nobody else can. She is, without a doubt, the person you aspire to be most.

Where she leads, you will follow.
